When is the last time you put your website through a performance audit? Have you ever? Lapero provides comprehensive website performance audits to analyze all of the factors that affect a website’s visibility in search engines. We will do this in preparation for a site redesign as well as part of large-scale search engine optimization (SEO).  Following are the various components Lapero includes in a website audit.

Website Report Card and Google Core Web Vitals

Website speed is the foundation of a good user experience. Not only does it directly impact the user’s perception of your website and therefore your brand, it has an impact on your organic SEO rankings.

The website report card  Lapero provides neatly summarizes your page performance based off key indicators of page load speed on mobile and desktop with throttled connections. We report on important core web vitals (CWV) milestones with a focus on the performance metrics that matter the most to your visitor's experience.

The grade we provide in the report blends the Performance and Structure percentage scores into a single grade that reflects the overall performance of your website. The Performance and Structure scores represent how fast the page loads from a user's perspective, along with how well it adheres to web-performance best practices.

We also focus and audit for Google CWV, taking into consideration that CWV are now being used as an organic SEO ranking factor by Google.

Google Core Web Vitals

Web Vitals is an initiative by Google to provide unified guidance for quality signals that are essential to delivering a great user experience on the web. Core Web Vitals are the subset of Web Vitals that apply to all web pages, should be measured by all site owners, and will be surfaced across all Google tools. Each of the Core Web Vitals represents a distinct facet of the user experience, is measurable in the field, and reflects the real-world experience of a critical user-centric outcome.

The metrics that make up Core Web Vitals will evolve over time. The current set for 2022 focuses on three aspects of the user experience—loading, interactivity, and visual stability—and includes the following metrics (and their respective thresholds):

Largest Contentful Paint (LCP):

measures loading performance. To provide a good user experience, LCP should occur within 2.5 seconds of when the page first starts loading.

First Input Delay (FID):

measures interactivity. To provide a good user experience, pages should have a FID of 100 milliseconds or less.

Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS):

measures visual stability. To provide a good user experience, pages should maintain a CLS of 0.1. or less.

For each of the above metrics, to ensure you're hitting the recommended target for most of your users, a good threshold to measure is the 75th percentile of page loads, segmented across mobile and desktop devices.

ADA Compliance

In 2018, the DOJ clarified that websites are considered places of public accommodation and must comply with ADA Title III. In 2022, the DOJ reaffirmed it and recommended WCAG 2.1 AA as the best practice.

The benefits  of an accessible, compliant website are:

Extend market reach

The spending power of people with disabilities is more than $6 trillion.

Mitigate legal risk

Mitigate the risk of lawsuits by complying with accessibility legislation.

Boost brand perception

Showing that accessibility is important to you will enhance your reputation.

The ADA audit evaluates the adherence level of your website to the "WebContent Accessibility Guidelines" (WCAG) 2.1 level AA success criteria. In the full PDF report Lapero provides, you'll find the results for dozens of tests that focus mainly on 3 categories: screen-reader adjustments  (for blind users), keyboard navigation adjustments (for the motor impaired) and UI, design, and readability adjustments (for the vision impaired).

Privacy and Cookie Compliance

Lapero also performs an audit using privacy laws like the GDPR, CCPA, PIPEDA, ePrivacy Regulation, and more to make sure your website is compliant and protected.

Sector-specific privacy laws (like GLBA, and FERPA), broader consumer privacy laws (like CCPA and GDPR), privacy laws governing the use of certain types of data (like COPPA), and organizations like the FTC regulate ecommerce businesses and their use of personal data. To comply with rules and regulations worldwide, you need to have a solid privacy policy for your site.

We also evaluate if you have the necessary legal disclaimers and policies on your website, such as a privacy policy, cookie policy, terms of service, shipping policy, etc., to protect your business and your website visitors.

Organic SEO Audit

SEO is not a “set it and forget it” type of strategy. It must be continuously monitored and reported on to track progress and placement metrics. Lapero offers this as part of an ongoing SEO strategy and it is recommended you consider this as part of a plan for success.

Elements included in this review may be:

  • Page Titles

  • Meta Description and Meta Keywords

  • SEO Friendly Product Detail Page URLs

  • Google Index Size

  • Sitemap/Robots.txt Toxic Backlinks

  • Invalid Links/404 Errors

UX Research Audit

User experience (UX) research is the process of gathering data around how users interact with your website to help you understand what pain points they may be experiencing and how you can address them. This can be done through observation as well as feedback.

Heat Mapping

Heatmaps help you understand what users do while on your website. Using colors, heatmaps will indicate where users click, how far they scroll, as well as what they look at or ignore.

Session Recording

Session recordings show real actions visitors take while on your website. They capture mouse movement, clicks, taps, and scrolling across multiple pages on desktop and mobile devices.

Both of these tools are used to not only understand how users engage with your site, but also help you fix issues they may bring to light. Having this knowledge allows you to improve the user experience and ultimately increase conversion rates.

Chatbot Feedback and User Surveys

Lapero can install chatbot feedback tools or user surveys on your website so we can gather insights directly from your visitors. Feedback can be collected on every page helping you spot underperforming parts of your site.

Comprehensive website audits and user experience research tell our team exactly what improvements should be made to your website’s functionality to decrease your bounce rate and site traffic, ultimately increasing conversions. Intelligent design decisions come from data analyzed directly from your site through audits or your users through observation and feedback.
